It's been out since a while now, but today, I finally decided to make the final memory purchase I will ever do for my Nintendo Switch, and buy the Sandisk 2TB Micro SD card. While initially my goal was to wait for a price cut, because yes, at this time, the price is quite high, I just couldn't resist any longer. With the Switch 2 around the corner, and the flow of new games becoming smaller and smaller, I wanted to start my final lineup of games available at all times on my Nintendo Switch right now.
It's been the 5th Micro SD card that I've bought for the Switch. Went from 256GB to 400GB, then 1TB, then 1.5TB and finally 2TB now. And everytime they were always Sandisk. Ever since the 3DS era, it's the only brand I'm buying, as they were always reliable for me, except one time, and this another reason why I'm buying this one now. Their 1.5TB crapped on me hard. It's still working, kinda, but the write speed is now abysmal, and most of the games installed on it takes FOREVER to load (like 1-2 minutes). I can fix the problem by reinstalling the game, but then older games just became corrupted by the same problem. No amount of complete format was fixing it. I had to go back to my 1TB, and it fixed everything...except the lack of space. My theory is that my 1TB was an Extreme and the 1.5TB is an Ultra, and they must have cheapened out on it while they were developping their 2TB. And I've read others report online from people having similar issues with their 1.5TB. So I'm hoping this new 2TB, which is an Extreme like my 1TB will fix the problems I had, while also giving me all the space I need to create my Ultimate Switch before the Switch 2.
As we can see, upon formating it on the Switch, the actual space you're getting is 1.8TB (which is really 1.86TB from what I'm reading online). So not really a TRUE 2TB, but it has been the same thing with all my Micro SD ever since my 1TB. A bigger and bigger portion of the initial space seems to be lost, surely for technical reason I just don't know about. Anyway, now is the time to redownload everything on it, and hope that nothing will get corrupted along the way. If it does, I'll make sure to post an update here.
